How to Set Forum Permissions in vBulletin
Internet message boards are a popular way for people with similar interests to remain in contact with one another. One of the most reliable and popular forum programs is vBulletin. When creating new forums in vBulletin, it is important to set the forum permissions. VBulletin administrators can control who has access to a forum through the vBulletin admin control panel.
Things You'll Need
VBulletin Version 3.70
Instructions
Log on to your vBulletin version 3.70 administrator control panel. After successfully logging on, click on the “Forums & Moderators” link, located in the left-side menu bar.
Click on “Forum Permissions.” You will be brought to a page that lists all of your forums and subforums, along with basic forum-permission information. In this quick view, you can see if the forum currently has standard, customized or inherited permissions. If you are working with a forum that has subforums assigned to it, you can easily create permissions for the entire section by using inherited forum permissions.
Select “Quick Forum Permission Setup” from the Additional Functions section of the page (located at the top). You will be presented with a page that has a drop-down menu at the top and a list of all of your forum's usergroups underneath.
Choose the forum for which you would like to set permissions from the “Apply Permissions to Forum” drop-down menu.
Place a check mark in the box next to each usergroup that needs to have permissions set or modified. You can choose multiple usergroups, which makes the forum-permission-setting process go more quickly.
Set the specific permissions by using the sections at the bottom. If you would like to deny access across the board, you can choose the option “All No.” If you would like to add access in all categories, simply select the option “All Yes.” Be wary of setting blanket access, as some of the options allow users a significant amount of control over the forum.
Verify that you have set permissions in all of the sections: forum viewing, forum searching, post/thread, attachment and poll permissions. Once you have the permissions set to your liking, click on the “Save” button.
Repeat the steps to set permissions for other forums and usergroup combinations.
