Show currency symbol at checkout

I have setup a 1.3.8a Winestore online and because of the CC gateway we use we are required to show the currency that the card is being billed in, not just the $ amount.

I was able to figure out a way to stick a "US$" in there for now but would like a better fix, and if possible to show the US$ next to the dollar amount.
This should also work for any currency.
Maybe a tottle in the admin section that you can turn off or on so it shows what-ever currency the customer selected.

We only bill in US$ so it was a little easier to find a band-aid. :-)

Is this possible? Can someone please help me with this?

You can try the following:

•Logon to the backend admin
•find your way to LOCALIZATION >> CURRENCIES
•Look for the US$ currency and click edit on the right
•On the "symbol left", use "US$" instead of the "$" along
•Click update to confirm the changes
